Welcome to the future of healthcare

The Berkeley Heart Program

Taking care of the employees pays off directly and indirectly. A well functioning benefit programme where advanced screening for risk of cardiovascular disease and a best-in-class programme that helps reduce risk for people with established cardiovascular disease or at high risk, will give tangible benefits for the company. Reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease will even have a positive impact on the employee’s family.

Proven, personal, practical

Berkeley Heart has provided benefits to more than 600 000 patients with more than 6 000 participating doctors in the US alone. The programme is so effective that MediCare (the US governmental health insurer) covers the cost for the patients in the US.

The approach of the programme is to provide advanced lab diagnostics with personalised patient management. This means that patients treatments plans are individualised to meet their particular lifestyle and work-life.

Employees can participate without having to be taken away from their work responsibilities or from their family life. Management of their treatment is done primarily with their primary doctor that teams with their personal healthcoach using a web-based tool for facilitating communication, tracking progress and goals and personalising lifestyle changes. This contributes to our high level of patient compliance.

How it works

  1. Start with taking the BH40 for all employees. For those that are identified with the BH40 to be at high risk, or those that already have established cardiovascular disease, continue with the Risk Reduction Program
  2. First step of the Risk Reduction Program is to take a CBL, or Comprehensive Baseline Test that establishes in depth the sources for the risk.
  3. The patients’ doctor and healthcoach will then “team-up” and create the personal Risk Reduction Plan. Together, they use the plan to guide and motivate the employee through changes in lifestyle important for reducing the heart disease risk including: Exercise, Medication, Stress Reduction, Nutrition.
  4. The employee logs in to their personal Berkeley website at www.4MyHealth.biz to:
    • Review test results, interact with their Health Coach to assess and set new lifestyle goals
    • Receive proactive education and motivation
    • Record and track exercise & diet activities
    • Monitor their weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels
  5. Included in the 12-month programme is a follow-up test panel performed every three months to monitor the employees progress! Their doctor may adjust their risk reduction plan based on the results of your repeated blood tests. With this information, the doctor is able to make more defined decisions about the risk reduction plan based on the employees individual risk and treatment response.

Who should take a BH40 test?

Since it is so easy to administer, all employees should take a BH40. We also recommend in cases where it is unpractical to have all employees tested to pre-screen the employees and test those if they have one or more of the following conditions:

  • High blood pressure
  • Family History of early cardiovascular disease
  • 50 years or older
  • Have or have had high cholesterol
  • Smokes
  • Overweight
  • Diabetes
  • Lack of physical activity at work or at home
  • High stress at work or at home

Who should enroll in a Berkeley Heart Risk
Reduction Program?

All employees that are found to have high risk for cardiovascular disease using the BH40 test should enroll. In addition, all employees that are known to have a high risk for cardiovascular disease can enroll in the programme directly. The same goes for people with already established cardiovascular disease.
